I feel lucky to live in a city where design is taken seriously.
From the specialist stores, niche designers to quirky buildings, markets and festivals like Design Made Trade. There are artists working in collectives and solo, designing one-off pieces. Businesses and designers experimenting with signage, unusual textures, type face and materials.
Melbourne with its mix of old and new has a special feel – and I suspect design has something to do with it.

I lurve this shop. http://www.thecatsmeow.com.au/ Must also say that I walk up Hosiers Lane most days and am always amazed at the talent in the explosions of colour that climb the walls.
Thanks for Cat’s Meow link – have come across some of their wares at markets. Yes I know the lane way street art is by and large fantastic. I also love Degraves St, but I confess for the cupcake shop and AMAZING jewellery store. Just trying to think of the name. It’s an Italian phrase. Will come to me.
