Adam Ant in Melbourne

Adam Ant was special guest on local television today.

Growing up, I was a huge fan. During his mid-70’s Australian promotional tour, Adam was  interviewed on Melbourne radio station 3XY. I hatched an idea to camp outside and seek an autograph.

Took the day off school with a group of pals.

We waited. Eventually a guy appeared and we surged forward. Upon closer inspection determined this was not Mr Ant and we scurried away. But the fella seemed pleased by the attention. (Years later realised was in fact Tom Waits).

Adam finally surfaced and signed our autograph books, nodding enthusiastically to my sensational ‘do you like Australia?’ question.

On telly today he was asked about the ‘famous stalking incident’ which led to time in a psychiatric hospital. Almost fell off the treadmill. Thankfully he didn’t mention a gaggle of silly schoolgirls. Was a great interview and to be honest, just happy to know he’s still alive.

Adam’s performing in my home town end of the week. Minimal inclination to head down there, take pics or repeat my fantastic, intelligent question. I must be cured (or old)!

Lisa, I really loved this little anecdote/reminiscence… Although not exactly in the Adam Ant ‘demographic’ (I’m not too old for Tom Waits, though!) and I know nothing much – and could care even less- about “Mr Ant”… the whole story nevertheless made me chuckle. Great writing and I now have resolved to keep checking out this quirky little blog! Good luck and thanks for sharing. Leslyn xx

    • Hello, pleasure to share this little ditty. Oh my I could write a book about my crazy ‘fan’ adventures. Amazing how music can get under one’s skin – depending on where we’re ‘at’ i.e. Spice Girls phenomenon completely passed me by. Wasn’t even aware. xx
