Vapiano is coming to Melbourne. The popular German pizza/pasta house where you order direct from the chef. And wait whilst your meal is cooked.

My Hamburg-based friend Robert and I had a night out at Vapiano. I was intrigued and wondered whether the concept would work in Melbourne – given our established history with Italian food, not to mention prevalence of gourmet pizza places.

Observing the huge queues inside and out Vapiano Hamburg I deduced there was something interesting happening. So when Robert emailed the other day, with the following snippet from the (Melbourne) business pages…

‘…while German pizza chain Vapiano committed to an 812 sq m two-level retail space on Collins Street’.

I almost choked on my muesli. Rushed to the Vapiano website FAQs. Sadly not possible to purchase shares. Obviously others have wondered the same thing. Alas not on the stock market.

I think they’ll make a motza in Melbourne.
